Our Systems

The
RAT (Rapid Assult Tactics): The RAT system is the heart of Paul Vunak's
Progressive Fighting Systems as well as Rapid Defense Systems, for it wouldn't
be "Rapid Defense" without the training of the RAT at our core.
Here is an example of the RAT seen through the eyes of someone on the receiving
end: imagine for a moment that you (the mugger) are in a street fight, and
every kick or punch you through is either intercepted or destroyed. You
try to regain your composure only to be pummeled backward with tremendous
forward pressure through a flurry of punches straight through your centerline.
You stick up your arms with the hope of covering, only to have your arms
slammed against your head and body and pinned. You're grabbed around the
neck and met with a barrage of of headbutts, knees, and elbows. The RAT
was developed by Paul Vunak specifically for the US Navy Seals as a primary
combative program taken from Jeet Kune Do. How it differs from any other
art or system out there is the Straight Blast concept. This concept deletes
base and balance for the assailant. It's an equalizer; you become capable
of taking out a larger person than yourself quickly and efficiently with
the most barbaric tools: headbutts, knees, elbows, and Kino Mutai (biting,
eye gouging, finger breaking, and pinching). Today the RAT system is taught
to Special Forces, Military, Marenes, Rangers, F.B.I., D.E.A., C.I.A., S.W.A.T.
Teams, and over 50 police departments in the U.S. and other countries. The
system covers all ranges of combat, i.e. kickboxing, trapping, grappling,
ground fighting, and weapons. Rapid Defense Systems can train and certify
(liscence to teach) anyone seeking instruction in 10 hours. This system
takes hours to learn and master, while most other systems take decades of
stamina, flexibility, and so forth. The RAT system accepts you just as you
are.

Jeet
Kune Do: Bruce Lee selected elements, concepts, training methods,
and mental frameworks from 27 different different arts to give his students
an integrated framework that prapared them to fight any opponent at any
range. As he said, "There is no superior art," the secret behind
Jeet Kune Do is that you can pass from one art to another, from one tecnique
to another with flow utilizing what is useful to the fighter at the crucial
time, enabling him or her to fight in all ranges: Kicking, Punching, Trapping,
Grappling. It is important not to mistake Jeet Kune Do for merely an eclectic
art taking the best techniques from some arts. In reality, the Jeet Kune
Do practitioner will build his own arsenal of techniques; Jeet Kune Do brovides
a base to build from. After Lee's death around 1973 Dan Inosanto, the catelyst
behind the development of JKD, addid one more element (Kali) making Jeet
Kune Do much more efficient with training drills such as Hubud, Destruction
techniques, and use of weapons such as sticks, blades, knifes, etc.
Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do Paradigm:
- Wing Chun
- Northern Praying Mantis
- Southern Praying Mantis
- Choy Li Fut

- Paqua
- Hsing-I
- Bak-Hoo Pai (White Crane) Bak-Fu Pai (White Tiger)
- Eagle Claw
- Ng Ga Kue(Five Family System)
- Ny Ying Ga (Five Animal System)
- Bak Mei Pai (White Eyebrow)
- Northern Shaolin
- Southern Shaolin
- Bok Pai
- Law Horn Kuen
- Chin Na
- Monkey Style
- Drunken Style
- Western Fencing(Foil)
- Western Boxing
- Western Wrestling
- Jiujitsu
- Escrima
- Filipino Sikaran
- Muay Thai (Thai Boxing)
- Savate
*Note: Jeet Kune Do now has the Filipino martial arts collectively (referred
to as Kali), and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, see below for description.

The
Filipino Martial Arts (Kali): A key component of the Filipino Martial
Arts is the art of Kali. Kali is an extremely functional, weapons based
fighting system. These weapon skills, developed from actual combat in Philippine
wars, can be applied to any object found around a practitioner at any time.
We also train in Dumog(Filipino wrestling), Suntukan Panantukan(Filipino
boxing), and Suntukan Pananjakman(Filipino kicking). The addition of the
Filipino Martial Arts into Jeet Kune Do training by Guro Dan Inosanto continues
the development and evolution of Jeet Kune Do, he found that the addition
of Kali weapons quickly builds critical fighting attributes that can be
applied to empty hand combat faster than just empty hand training alone.
“Attributes are the inner qualities that shape technique and that provide
the ground from which technique springs. The victor in a fight is the fighter
who possesses superior attributes. These include the qualities of killer
instinct, sensitivity, timing, reflex, power, line familiarization, sense
of purpose, and yes technical skill.”-Paul Vunak
Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu: The functionality of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu first hit America
when 180lb Brazilian named Royce Gracie was submitting(joint locking or
choking) opponents in the first Ultimate Fighting Championships. Royce Gracie
through Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was able to take down and submit opponents twice
his size before they started dividing the weight classes in UFC. Brazilian
Jiu Jitsu is a ground fighting system that emphasizes position, control
and submissions, using chokes, arm locks, and leg locks. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
will teach you how to takedown and throw an opponent. You will also learn
how to dominate and control an opponent positionally as well as all the
escapes to these positions. You will then learn how to submit your opponent
using a variety of finishing holds such as chokes, arm locks, shoulder locks,
leg locks and more. The street side of this art is stressed, you will learn
to use Kino Mutai(biting, eye gouging, finger breaking and pinching) to
escape someone else’s Jiu Jitsu or wrestling, and get back to standup combat,
as it is not smart to be on the ground where there could be pieces of glass
and multiple opponents kicking your head and body.
Little Spartans: This class is for students ages 6-12 and is a weekly self
defense class. Students will learn an integrated framework of the martial
arts such as U.S. Boxing, Wing Chun Gung Fu, Samurai/Ninja/Spartan weaponry,
Kali weaponry, Muay Thai (Thailand Kickboxing), Judo, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu,
Savate (French Kickboxing), Northern Shaolin Gung Fu, Capoeira, modified
Tai
Chi Chuan, and U.S. Fencing. This class features a ranking system of White,
Orange, Purple, Green, Blue, Red, Gold, Black, Black with Red stripe, and
Black with Red and Gold stripe. These classes are as fun as they are
functional. Call Charlie for details of when and where.
